 Billerica History

The Billerica Historical Society is a private, non-profit organization, founded in 1894 for the purpose of "collecting and preserving objects of local and general historical interest, the consideration of historical events, the marking of historical locations in the town and the maintenance of the Society's quarters, the Clara E. Sexton Memorial, as an historical and educational shrine."
The Sexton Memorial House, headquarters of the Society since 1937, was built before 1723. The house was once the residence of Rev. Henry Cumings, D.D., minister of the First Parish Church and a leading figure in the American Revolution. Physicians, merchants, blacksmiths and other professionals have also resided there. Clara Edith Sexton, wife of William H. Sexton and a long-time member of the Society bequeathed the property to the Society.
